You must know that I do enjoy a good Oprah moment. This generally happens when some one shows me how to do yet another cool thing on Explain Everything. And so, like one of the fanatical and loyal Oprah followers my heart rate increased and may have silently screamed on the inside when I saw this idea at the iPad Ed conference.
It’s simple really:
1) open Explain everything
2) take photo of age appropriate text
3) insert picture
4) let class record themselves reading
5) listen to recordings
6) “seen” reading mark inserted into mark book. BOOM.
The idea behind this activity is to allow those children who are shy or reserved to confidently read a text they have seen to THEIR best ability. No pressure from a teacher trying to get through listening to same boring text over and over as well as trying to mark last weeks test and reply to yet another email from the admin department while tiny suzy keeps sniffing in tune to her pencil tapping… If you know what I mean.
SImple. Can be assessed. Easy for teacher and child. Hello!
